Wood Siding Installation
Cedar, redwood, fir, cypress, spruce, pine and hemlock — real wood siding, installed properly.
Solid Wood Siding
Most types of wood can be used as solid plank siding, including cedar, fir, redwood, cypress, spruce, pine and hemlock. Redwood in particular is very durable and weather-resistant; left unpainted it darkens season by season to a deep gray-brown.
Solid wood siding comes in plenty of styles for both horizontal and vertical applications — beveled, dropped and beaded planks for horizontal, and v-groove, tongue-and-groove and board-and-batten for vertical.
Beveled Horizontal Siding
Beveled horizontal wood siding is one of the most popular of all solid wood exterior wall coverings for Maryland and Pennsylvania homes, because it complements most architectural styles.
- Available in varying thicknesses and widths with beveled, tapered edges
- Exaggerates the deep horizontal shadow lines that characterize a home’s appearance
- Installed over sheathing and building paper, secured through to the wall studs
- Corners covered with metal corner pieces or wooden corner boards at least one inch thick, to give a substantial caulking base
Plywood and Panel Siding
Plywood siding is a popular choice because it comes in many varieties of texture and pattern, and covers large areas quickly.
- Wide sheets mean fewer seams and faster installation
- Available in a range of surface textures and groove patterns
- A cost-effective route to a wood exterior
